The El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, located in the southern State of Chiapas, Mexico, protects the largest remaining tracts of cloud forest in Mexico. The reserve is an important refuge for rare, endemic and endangered plant and animal species. The DWA provides support to the El Triunfo Fund, a local NGO, that is working to assure the conservation of this important area. It is home to 392 species of birds, including the Horned guan (Oreophasis derbianus), the Resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) and the Cabanisi tanager (Tangara cabanisi). The activities include, but not limited to, obtaining a census of the Horned guan and Resplendent quetzal in high-density areas; providing park rangers to patrol, monitor and help protect the Biosphere Reserve from illegal activities; supporting supplemental nesting boxes with digital monitoring systems; reforesting with local trees, particularly the Agucatillo or Wild avocado (Persea sp.).
