Mammals

Mammals that live in the Orinoco Rainforest exhibit range in size from the tiny, nocturnal Vampire bat to the large Antillean manatee. They can also be found in the depths of the River exhibit to the branches in the upper canopy.

Antillean manatees live in the River exhibit with many species of catfish, stingrays and turtles.

Pygmy marmosets pale in size to the Pale-faced sakis and Red howler monkeys. Owl monkeys and five species of tamarins provide entertainment throughout the canopy and understory. The troop of howler monkeys can be heard throughout the entire facility as they make sure their territory is understood, although they do share their exhibit with numerous birds and tortoises.

Taking center stage in the understory are Giant river otters, the largest of the 13 species of otters. They are excellent swimmers and are quite the acrobats. Like the howler monkeys overhead, they add considerable sound to the rainforest.

Both Two-toed and Three-toed sloths reside at The Dallas World Aquarium. In the understory, Two-toed sloths can be seen in their exhibit, while the Three-toed sloth is on display in the canopy level each afternoon.
